S-Bus DPSS 2018 battery backer Emcotec

This Twin battery power supply (battery backer) is primarily configured for S-BUS receivers and servos, standard servos and electronic devices may also be connected using the PWM-Adapter. The major advantage of the S-BUS system is that only a 3 core cable is needed to connect the twin batteries to the receiver and also carry the signals for upto 18 channels from the receiver to the servos.
  • S-Bus DPSS 2018 battery backer Emcotec

The receiver may be conveniently placed in a good reception position (e.g cockpit area), whilst the battery backer and twin airborne batteries be positioned lower/further forward in the fuselage.
2 receivers can be connected to the input, as the battery backer has an automatic switch dependent on signal strength. This is important for large models over 20 kg (UK) and 25 kg (Germany), where they must be operated with 2 separate receivers installed.
The twin battery supply is also suitable for use with 4 Spektrum Satellite receivers.
The twin battery supply will use a sturdy triple-core S-BUS-lead (1mm²) to feed power to the servos, an example is one lead to the tail in the fuselage and one/two more in the wing panels.
The servos then can be connected in their desired positions on the S-BUS-wiring by using a special S-BUS-terminal blocks. Thereby reducing the amount of wiring work greatly. Weight is also saved by reducing the amount of heavy cabling required. Furthermore, 2 or more servos can be quickly connected in the same position using the S-BUS terminal block, just in Case the power of only one servo is not sufficient.
in this Case , the servos must have the relevant channel number allocated to them and the job is done.
In total, there are 4 S-BUS-outputs available, that are coupled together in pairs (Output 1: A1+A2, Output 2: B1+B2). Each one of the two outputs has a power supply, switchable from 5,4V - 6,0V - 6,6V or 7,4 V. The maximum current load on each is 10 Ampere continuous (> 15 min/7,4 V) and 50 A momentary (each second output) when using 2S-batteries
By using the optional, temperature controlled cooling fan, which simply screws to the base unit, the power of the battery backer can be increased to 16 Ampere continuous if required.
Besides the serial outputs, there is also the parallelen outputs 1...8 (or 9...16) and 17/18 which may be used to connect standard servos or additional electronics with PWM-control.
    Also, these outputs (C) have a combined power supply, which amy be switched between 5,4V - 6,0V - 6,6 V or 7,4 V.
The current loading is approximately 8 A continuous and incresed to 12 A by using a fan The power supply of the receiver(s) is made similarly through output (C), hence has an identical voltage state. This makes the parallel connection of servos directly to the receiver possible.
Connection to the power supply is made using heavy duty leads which means that is easy to use one's own external plugs and sockets, without having to open the unit for access to wiring. Naturally, both batteries are discharged equally during operation. Thereby halving the current per battery which will extend the battery life.
With two LiPo-chargers 2S 750 mA (No. F1692), the LiPo-batteries can be charged simultaneously from 230 Volt mains, without having to separate any wiring. The integrated Equalizer automatically balances the cells voltages
The best possible safety also is guaranteed using the integral buzzer. Buzzer codes give warning of incorrect status. If the capacity of the battery drops to a dangerous level and low voltage threatens, an unmistakable warning sounds.
From the transmitter, a maximum of 16 proportional and 2 switch channels can be controlled. From the battery backer side, many servos can be operated together, provided that one allocates them the same channel number. The transmitter software adjusts the throws, direction, reaction times of the individual servo channels, hence complicated servo programming and matching is no longer needed at the battery backer. In addition, parallel and serial channels can be simultaneously used.
The maximum number of servos in use, is limited by the power requirements of anddependent on the servo type, but is limited to 36 Servos in practice.
Due to the limited number of plug connections as well as the highly effective fan technology in cooling, the battery backer is, with a size of 122 x 80 x 33 mm very compacy and with 200 g (220 g) also very light. The backer is fitted with 4 vibration damping rubber mounts for bolting it into the model.
The electrical connections are such that the backer can be easily tranferred from model to model.
furthermore, the battery backer has an SD-card memory socket. Using this connection with Bootlader function, the software can always be kept up to date.
The SD-card will also be used for data logging/recording. The most important flight data can be displayed via the plug-in LCD-Box or also easily stored on the SD-Card for transfer to a PC, where they may be read and displayed, the LCD-Box does not need an SD-Card to be able to display the data.
Using the enormous memory capacity of the SD-Card, an additional regular model logbook can also be stored.

The following data may be accessed:
    • Operating voltage curves of batteries 1+2 during last flight
    • Capacity use of batteries 1+2 during last flight
    • Residual capacity of batteries Akku 1+2 (only when, previously, the total capacity has been correctly set as well programmed!)
    • Latest load current
    • Maximum current reached
    • Average current
    • Flight time, etc.
    • Number of receiver cut-offs 1+2
